Drew Brees Makes the Madden NFL 11 Cover

EA Sports announced today that Drew Brees, Super Bowl XLIV MVP and quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, will be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 11, set to hit retailers on Tuesday, August 10. Brees beat out both Reggie Wayne, wide receiver for the Indianapolis Colts and Jared Allen, defensive end for the Minnesota Vikings in a fan voting that was sponsored by Doritos. The press release issued by EA Sports also noted that the voting “represents the first in a series of initiatives this year which allow fans to help shape the future of the franchise.”

“The Madden NFL franchise holds a special place in popular culture and the cover is a coveted position for players all over the league,” said New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. “I’m honored to be the first cover athlete chosen by Madden NFL fans and it’s a great way to cap off an amazing year for the Saints and the city of New Orleans.”

Voting took place from February 4 thru March 15 and was promoted by limited edition Doritos bags that featured past cover athletes Shaun Alexander, Marshall Faulk, and Eddie George. Brees, having led New Orleans to their first ever Super Bowl victory just a few years after suffering a career threatening injury when playing for the Chargers, was an obvious choice for the Madden cover. Drew has gained popularity outside of the football field as well by contributing his time to helping the city of New Orleans get back on its feet after the devastation brought on by Hurricane Katrina.

“Drew’s exceptional performance during the regular season and in Super Bowl XLIV resonated with voters and helped cement his position as the fans’ choice to grace the cover of Madden NFL 11,” said Todd Sitrin, Group Vice President, EA SPORTS Global Marketing. “Giving fans the power to select this year’s Madden NFL cover underscores our commitment to connecting with our fans and giving them opportunities to influence the game.”

Madden NFL 11 launches on Tuesday, August 10 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable.

Borderlands is a genre-bending experience giving you and up to three other friends the ability to team up and battle your way through the land of Pandora. The campaign is a frenzied assault with hordes of enemies looking to take your head off. As with many first person shooters, multiplayer modes will play a large factor in the replayability. Borderlands will include standard deathmatch and objective based matches to satiate anyone looking to pump some guts full of lead.

What separates this game from traditional shooters in the past? Players are able to upgrade their characters skills and abilities throughout the game. An intuitive weapon system offers thousands of different guns to choose from as well so there is never a dull moment. Borderlands is out today and available for XBox 360 and PS3.
